Updating Custom Components Based on the Base Date

The following illustrates the steps you would take to update custom components you are maintaining with costs you have collected yourself:

  1. After logging into SwiftEstimator, select the Tools option, then select the Custom Components option.

  2. In the "Existing Custom Components" section of the Custom Components screen, select "Base Date" following "Show."

  3. Enter the earliest and latest base date for the custom components to be updated, in the format mm/yyyy.  Example:  The following illustrates the dates entered for all custom components with base dates of last updated in the entire year of 2003:
    Show field equals Update Date, between field equals 01/2003, and field equals 12/2003

  4. Click the Search button to display all custom components with Base Dates in this date range.

  5. Click "edit" for one of the components to display the Edit Custom Component screen for this component.

  6. Change the Base Date to the new date of the custom component the costs.

  7. Change the Unit Costs for the component to the new costs.

  8. Make any other necessary changes in the custom component data.

  9. Click the OK button on the Custom Component Data screen to save the changes and return to the Custom Components screen.

  10. Repeat Steps 2 through 9 for each custom component that needs updating.

Updating Custom Components from an M&S Book

Whenever Marshall & Swift updates a section in the Marshall Valuation Service (MVS) or Residential Cost Handbook (RCH), you need to update any custom components whose source is this section.  The following illustrates the steps to accomplish this for an update of Section 61 in the Marshall Valuation Service:

  1. After logging into SwiftEstimator, select the Tools option, then select the Custom Components option.

  2. In the "Existing Custom Components" section of the Custom Components screen, select "M&S Source" following "Show."

  3. Select "Marshall Valuation Service" for the "Source," then select the number and name of the MVS section that was updated:
    " "

  4. Click the Search button to display all custom components in this section.

  5. Click "edit" for one of the components to display the Custom Component Data screen for this component.

  6. Change the Base Date to the date of the updated MVS page.

  7. Change the Unit Costs for the component to those on the updated MVS page.

  8. Make any other necessary changes in the custom component data.

  9. Click the OK button on the Custom Component Data screen to save the changes and return to the Custom Components screen.

  10. Repeat Steps 2 through 9 for each custom component whose source is this MVS section.
