These buildings include college and boarding school residence halls, intern or nurses' quarters, and military service quarters. They generally have a lounge and frequently have common dining facilities.

In the better qualities, the rooms are soundproof, furniture is built-in, baths are tiled and painted, halls, lounges and rooms are carpeted. Plaster and drywall are the most common wall finishes used. The amount of detail on the interior is commensurate with the overall quality.
