These commercial or institutional greenhouse buildings are under 4,500 square feet and have straight walls with gable or shed roofs. They are used to regulate the climate conditions for study and display of germination and growing of various plants and vegetables, and include both educational and commercial sales structures. Frames are light wood posts (Class D) or steel pipe or tube assemblies (Class S) with various translucent covers. The lowest qualities have only glass or fiberglass coverings. The better conservatory structures have good structural mullions and architectural embellishments, and may have some masonry knee wall. The floors are light concrete, gravel or dirt at the lower qualities, which can be either the typical school growing or sales nursery house. The better horticultural or research structures will have glazed partitions and sealed concrete floors. Costs include some electrical and water service commensurate with the quality.
The following are not included in the costs: Heating, automated watering systems, shade curtains or planting benches.
