This type of shingle is made of either felt saturated with asphalt and surfaced with mineral granules or inorganic fiberglass saturated with asphalt and surfaced with ceramic granules. The highest qualities are laminated. The shingles may be made individually, in strips, interlocking and self-sealing. Normally this type of roof cover is applied on medium-pitched roofs over building paper.
