Plaster coats over a lath material. The special acoustical plaster finish coat is designed to deaden sound flow. Typically it is one of two types:
Gypsum or lime binder, generally troweled on.
Adhesive binder, which has a tendency to shrink on drying and can be either machine applied in coats or troweled.
The lath is gypsum board (plain, perforated or insulated). Wood lath may be found in some older buildings.
