Carpeting of either nylon, acrylic or wool, and a padding material installed beneath the carpet for cushion. Nylon carpets are typically least expensive, with those having a mesh-woven backing being somewhat more expensive. Generally they are lighter weight carpets, usually 15 to 22 ounces. Acrylic carpets appear very similar to wool, but are not as expensive and do not wear as well. Typical weights are between 36 and 42 ounces. Wool carpets are the most expensive and will usually be 36 to 42 ounces in weight in commercial grades.
The following influence quality:
Color: Products with natural colors are a lower quality than products with dyed colors.
Pattern: Products with solid patterns are a lower quality than products with intricate and varied weave patterns.
Composition/Thickness: Products are categorized by weight, with 15-18 ounces being a low grade and 30-33 ounces being a high grade.
Material Grade: Synthetic materials are a lower quality than natural materials such as wool.
